Diego Simeone’s son Giovanni Simeone bagged a brace in Napoli’s 3-0 win over Scottish side Rangers on Thursday, October 26, 2022, to match his dad’s UEFA Champions League record.

Giovanni became the second Argentine to net four goals in his first four Champions League appearances in the tournament.

The only other player from the South American nation to have scored four goals in the same number of games was his father.

Argentina has had brilliant players like Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero and Paulo Dybala, but none have achieved that feat.

Giovanni put a high-flying Napoli side ahead in the 11th minute when he superbly controlled the ball inside the penalty box before firing it past the Ranger's shot-stopper.

Minutes later, the 27-year-old headed in a lovely cross from Mario Rui to make it 2-0 for the Serie A leaders.

Debutant Leo Ostigard scored late into the second half to ensure the Luciano Spalletti tutored side returned to Italy with three vital points that helped them to top their group.

Although Giovanni had a night to remember, his father’s dream of winning the 2022/2023 Champions League title with Atletico Madrid ended in tears.

Diego’s charges were bundled out of the tournament by a brilliant Bayer Leverkusen side after a 2-2 draw at the Civitas Metropolitano stadium.

However, all is not lost for Atletico since they will now join the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Sevilla, Barcelona, Ajax and Juventus in the Europa League
