James Namaba Kamweti is a professional lawyer who plays for Kenya's Kabaddi national team.

Kamweti also acts as the team's Vice Captain.

The lawyer plies his trade in India, featuring for one of the top Kabaddi clubs known as UP Yoddhas.

Kamweti was introduced to the sport while studying in 2018. This was after he met the founder and President of the Kenya Kabaddi Association, Lavender Oguta, on the streets.

Lavender invited him to Kasarani to participate in a training session, sparking curiosity in the sports athlete.

Kamweti had never watched or heard about the sport before 2018. He credits Lavender for enabling him and other Kenyans to earn call-ups from international clubs to play the sport.

“Thanks go to Lavender Oguta, she has really struggled to try to push the game. She tries to push clubs that are abroad to pick Kenyan players,” Kamweti noted.

The sportsman is in the team with the number one Kabaddi player Pardeep Narwal, sharing the same position - raiders.

Kamweti trains after waking up in the morning. He then eats his breakfast before resting, including water therapy in the swimming pool. Afterwards, he takes another meal before training again.

He has so far won the Player of the match (Bangabandthu Cup 2021) and Best Raider of the tournament (Bangabandthu Cup 2021).

In 2022, he won another man of the match trophy and is also a two-time silver medalist after his team reached the finals in 2021 and 2022 at the Bangabandhu Cup.

Kabaddi was introduced in Kenya in 2012 and was officially registered in March 2013.
