Kenya's national Kabaddi team suffered a 31-34 loss in the final to Bangladesh for the Bangabandhu Cup International Kabaddi Tournament.

The final was played at Shaheed Noor Hossain Volleyball Stadium in Dhaka on Thursday, March 24.

Bangladesh who hosted the tournament defended and retained their title in the highly contested tourney.

The Kenyan side, however, registered an improvement as they narrowed their loss margin from 34-28 20 34-31.

Kenya reached the finals after beating Sri Lanka 29 49 in the semi-final at the Kabaddi Tournament continuing their unbeaten record.

Victor Onyango Obiero won the best raider award and was feted with a cash prize of Ksh26,600.

Onyango in the Semis got Ksh13,300 as cash reward after being named man-of-the-match.

The Kenyan team coach Levanter Atieno Oguta attributed his side's loss to overconfidence.

“Our players played well throughout the tournament. But they were overconfident in the final today,” he noted.

Kenya was using this year’s tournament to prepare for the upcoming World Cup in December 2022 in Dubai.

This was the country's second loss to the champions. In 2021 they suffered the same fate in the finals.
