FIFA president, Gianni Infantino, was grateful to the over 200 Member Association who have officially backed him for another term as President.

On November 17, it was confirmed that Infantino would be running for office unopposed as he seeks to lead the world football governing body for another four years.

Infantino spoke for the first time in public at the Generation Amazing Youth Festival since the deadline day for candidates to submit their intentions to run for office.

“I would like, because again it’s the first time I am speaking publicly today, to put on record my big thanks for the over 200 Member Associations of FIFA, all the six confederations who have supported me.

“I feel humbled and honoured to be able to serve the global football community for the next four years,” Infantino stated.

Rwanda will host the 73rd FIFA Congress, which will be taking place on March 16, 2023, in Kigali.

The country will be the second African nation to host the annual congress of the international football body after South Africa, which hosted it in 2007.

Infantino also took the opportunity to theta the Qatar organisers for hosting the 22nd edition of the World Cup.

“Qatar promised us that they would deliver amazing. Again, I want to put on record my, not only thanks - I did that already several times, it goes without saying - but also my congratulations to his Highness, the Amir and to the whole of Qatar for putting up such an amazing FIFA World Cup,” Infantino added.

The Qatar men's national team will kick-start the tournament with a Group A fixture against Ecuador on November 20.
