
Gor Mahia began their 2022/2023 Football Kenya Federation Premier League season with a 1-0 win against Nzoia Sugar.
The match held on Saturday, November 19, at the Nyayo National Stadium, was attended by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo.
Gor Mahia found the back of the net after 53 minutes courtesy of a goal by Benson Omala who converted a set-piece delivery from, Sydney Ochieng.

During the match, two players from both teams had a deadly head-on collision forcing two ambulances onto the pitch.
K’Ogalo’s Ernest Wendo and Nzoia's Stephen Otieno were attended to by medics before they were quickly rushed to the hospital.
Gor Mahia, the home team, had three ambulances on standby, which proved to be beneficial.
Wendo who had been taken to the hospital was back on the pitch after a few minutes.
In the last minutes of the match, Nzoia’s Moses Mwale found the back of the net only for the goal to be disallowed after he was ruled to be in an offside position.
With the win, Gor joined other clubs like Tusker and AFC Leopards who registered wins in their opening fixtures.
Ingwe handed Ulinzi Stars, a 2-0 defeat at the Ulinzi Sports Complex placing them at the top of the league table.
Former FKFPL champions Tusker who had traveled to Kakamega county to face Homeboyz went home with three points with a 2-1 win at Bukhungu Stadium.
