Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba, on Saturday morning, December 10, flagged off the East African Mini-Classic Safari Rally in Eldoret. 

The CS was in the company of Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii and the Classic Safari Rally Chairperson Joey Ghose, where they also planted trees as part of the government's mitigation to curb the effect of climate change. 

The tree planting initiative is part of the government's drive to plant 15 billion trees by 2032.

Namwamba also took the opportunity to commend the presence of an all-women team led by driver Caroline Gitimu and navigated by Tuta Moinki. 

The CS assured the team of his ministry support to ensure more women were included in the rally sport. 

On day two of the event, Geoff Bell, navigated by Tim Challen, led the Provisional result after day one. 

Day two will see the drivers tackle three stages in Eldoret and its environs. 

Raaji Bharij and his navigator Ravi Soni were the first on the road in the fog to tackle day two of the mini-classic. 

The event will cover about 1000km, retracing many of the Classic Safari Rally routes in and around Eldoret. 

All Competitive sections are gravel roads, with the event divided into three stages per day over three days.
