Kenyan rally driver Nikhil Sachania suffered a terrible injury after having an accident while training on a quad bike at the age of 22.

After the accident Sachania was rushed to a hospital in Nairobi, but, due to the lack of the necessary equipment to perform the procedure needed, he was transferred to another facility in India where doctors confirmed him paralyzed.

Despite the injury, Sachania returned behind the wheel three years after the crash using a rally car with modifications to suit his condition.

With the help of his navigator Deep Patel, Sachania drives a car that only uses hand controls.

The rally driver finished 18th overall and third in the Kenya National Rally Championship (KNRC) category in the just concluded WRC Safari Rally held in Kenya.

During one of his interviews with BBC Sports Africa, the rally driver highlighted that despite him being disabled he still participates in social activities.

"I've done bungee jumping. I've gone shark diving. I'm a certified diver. I rally. I go to work. All in all, I haven't had a hiccup where there's something I can't do," Sachania told BBC Africa Sports.

His navigator also noted that many people do not believe that someone in Nikhil's position is rallying.

Patel revealed that his driver is always his top priority no matter what situation they find themselves in while competing.

"If we get a puncture, it's me changing the tires. I take on the burden to do everything," Patel told BBC Africa Sports.
