Bayer Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will miss the remainder of the 2022/2023 Bundesliga season after breaking his leg while on holiday.

Neuer, 36, confirmed that he broke his right leg while skiing during his holiday after Germany's elimination from the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

The shot-stopper stated that he had successful surgery on Friday, December 9, which will keep him out of action for the remainder of the Bundesliga.

“What can I say? The end of the year could have gone better.

"While I was trying to get my head clear while ski touring, I suffered a lower leg fracture.

"Yesterday's surgery went well. Many thanks to the doctors! However, it hurts to know that the current season is over for me," Neuer noted.

The Bundesliga will return to action on January 20, 2023, with Bayern travelling away for a match against third-place RB Leipzig.

Bayern will now have to rely on 34-year-old Sven Ulreich or go into the market to sign a new goalkeeper.

However, the defending champions have the option of recalling 26-year-old Alexander Nubel currently on loan with Monaco.

The Bundesliga defending champions will also miss their captain in the Champions League knock-out stages where they are set to pay their first leg away to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at the Allianz Arena on March 8, 2022.

Neuer joined Bayern in 2011 Neuer and has made 488 appearances.

His injury intensified Bayern's recent woes after losing French left-back Lucas Hernadez and Senagales Forward Sadio Mane.
