“Amsterdammers are often direct and demanding. That is also allowed, I like that and that is why I can be honest with you. We have a special relationship together, but it wasn’t always easy for me.
“Sometimes I had the feeling that I was playing against some of you and sometimes that I was criticized just a little faster than many other players. I don’t know if my feeling is right. Maybe not. Some will understand me, some won’t. But no, it’s certainly not the reason for my goodbye. I am grateful to you,” part of his statement read.
However, according to Ajax Chief Executive Edwin van der Sar, Blind will play one final match at the Johan Cruijff Arena to say goodbye to the fans.
"I hope he can find another club to end his successful career with. Together with Daley, we have decided on a match in the Arena where he can say a proper goodbye to the supporters," van der Sar stated.
Blind made his debut for Ajax in 2008 before joining Manchester United where he played for four seasons.
He returned to Ajax in 2018 winning the Dutch league on three occasions ( 2019, 2021, and 2022).
In his Ajax career, he has won seven titles in 333 appearances, scoring 13 goals, and 21 assists.
He is linked to a move to Royal Antwerp in the Belgian Pro League.
