"I'm a retired athlete, and in all my active times, I never engaged in any use of banned substances.

"These drugs that you are ingesting into your body are harmful and will eventually kill your career and ultimately send you to your early grave. We must resist the urge for quick gains by compromising our core values as a nation that competes clean," the MP stated.

Also present at the event was SOYA awards President Paul Tergat who called for the enhancement of grassroots sports to better spot talents.

"Sports is first grassroots before it's national. We need to build platforms for our young athletes at the grassroots level to showcase their prowess," Tergat added.

Representing the Minister of Tourism Peninah Malonza at the event was the PS State Department for Wildlife, Silvia Museiya.

The PS highlighted the importance of the athletes who act as Kenyan ambassadors while competing internationally.

She highlighted that both ministries will continue to work together to boost economic growth and support livelihoods and communities that derive direct benefits from sports.
