Fortune Sacco FC has been disbanded following Football Kenya Federation’s (FKF) decision to relegate the club.
The Kirinyaga County-based side was suspended and relegated on Thursday, January 26, from the National Super League (NSL) to the Division One League for failing to honour matches.
It was relegated alongside Administration Police Service (APS) Bomet FC. The two clubs had not played a single match since the start of the 2022/2023 season.

Timothy Muthike, Fortune Sacco Chief Executive Officer (CEO), confirmed the decision to disband the local club.
“When things changed, we felt there is no need to take part in the lower league as that was not our expectation.
“We are no longer interested. The excitement of qualification is no longer there and we have since moved on,” he was quoted by Mozzart Sport.
Muthike added that the sponsors were willing to grant the club a whopping amount of cash to help cater for their expenses this season but they were forced to withdraw the offer after Fortune Sacco’s promotion was cancelled.
“We had set aside Ksh12 million for this season. The sponsor cannot release the money after failing to get the promotion.
“We are now looking at supporting either the local leagues or other sports. But we are not coming back as a team either now or in the future,” commented Muthike.
The challenges facing Fortune Sacco and APS Bomet started at the beginning of the season when the 2021/2022 season was declared null and void.
Fortune Sacco and APS Bomet had qualified for this season’s top-flight league but were prevented from taking part since the entire season was not recognized due to the ban imposed on Kenya by FIFA.
