Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood has had all charges levelled against him dropped.

According to a report from the Greater Manchester United Police, the 21-year-old's criminal proceedings were discontinued after consultations with the legal team.

"Given the significant media coverage of this case, it is only fair that we share the news that the 21-year-old man, who had been arrested and charged in connection with an investigation opened in January 2022, no longer faces criminal proceedings in relation to this,” a statement from Chief Superintendent Michaela Kerr, GMP's Head of Public Protection stated.

Chief Superintendent Michaela Kerr asked people to understand the logic behind the discontinuation of proceedings at this stage, adding that it has not been taken lightly.

"Despite the media and public's interest in this case, we have decided not to comment on it in any further detail," Kerr added.

Manchester United is yet to make a statement on the report after it suspended Greenwood from training or playing matches.

The Crown Prosecution Service discontinued the criminal proceedings after more than a year when the forward was arrested.

This comes weeks after Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy was freed on bail ahead of his trial on rape charges.

The Manchester City fullback was accused of attacking five women between October 2020 and August 2021.
