
The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) unveiled its new members of the council of eminent personalities, with two former Kenyan athletes on the list.
The personalities included Catherine Ndereba and National Olympic Council - Kenya President Paul Tergat, who will represent Kenya.
Ndereba and Tergat were appointed during the official state of the IGAD region address.

Workneh Gebeyehu conducted the official inauguration ceremony of the IGAD Council of Eminent Personalities, IGAD Executive Secretary in Mombasa, Kenya.
After the appointments, Ndereba noted that she was determined to deliver the best in her new role.
She also thanked the IGAD team for considering her contribution when representing the country in world Athletic competitions.
“My work was not only representing my country, and the region and now I feel there is more work to be done for my region. I am thankful for the people who saw it wise to appoint me for the position,” Ndereba stated.
Her new role as a Council member is goodwill envoy, where she will champion issues such as climate change, Humanitarian response, reconciliation, and Regional peace and Integration.
Ndereba serves in Kenya as Deputy Commissioner General of Prisons(DCP).
She is also a two-time World champion in marathon races and holds the current African record in Road Relay.
As for Tergat, he is the current President of the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K).
He was a two-time World Half Marathon champion in his active athletics days.
