
Borussia Dortmund star striker Erling Haaland has been named Bundesliga Player of the Year after providing 27 goals and eight assists in 28 appearances for the German side.
The Norwegian striker beat Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski, who had a phenomenal season after he registered 41 goals and seven assists in 29 bundesliga appearances, to the fan-voted prize.
The towering Bayern Munich forward, Robert Lewandowski set a record by breaking Gerd Muller’s 49-year-old record for most goals in a Bundesliga season.
Haaland however took the social media platforms to thank the fans who voted him in for the prize“An honour to be awarded with the Bundesliga Player of the Season! An achievement not just for me but for the whole Borussia Dortmund family. We won this award together!,” Haaland posted on twitter.
Lewandowski's overall goal scoring tally for the season came in at 48 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions.
However, the Poland captain fell short of Haaland in the fan-voted Bundesliga Player of the Year award.
Haaland has also thrived for Borussia Dortmund this season as he scored an impressive 27 times and picked up eight assists in 28 Bundesliga appearances this season.
