Ferdinand Omanyala broke his national record after he finished first at the Meeting Lievin Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais on Wednesday, February 15.

The Commonwealth 100m champion set a new Kenyan record in the 60m race with a time of 6:54 seconds.

Omanyala was followed by Italian Marcell Jacobs in second position and Ivory Coast’s Arthur Cisse who came in at third.

“It's a win. Big win… God did it,” Omanyala stated.

This was the first time that Omanyala beat the Italian sprinter - a 2020 Olympic 100 metres champion

In 2022 Marcel Jacobs won setting a personal best time of 6:50 seconds with Omanyala finishing fourth where he set the then-national record time of 6:57 seconds.

Omanyala has registered three victories during his 2023 tour of France losing only one in Miramas to Cisse.

Ahead of the 2023 World Athletics Indoor Tour in France, Omanyala had indicated he would not be participating before he made a drastic u-turn.

The Kenyan sprinter revealed that the change was attributed to his high fitness level which has been evident in France.

“We decided so because the body got into shape earlier than expected,” Omanyala stated.
