On Sunday evening, February 19, 2023, Suleiman Shahbal is expected to unveil the newly formed Mombasa United FC.

The wheels for the formation of the club were put in motion in 2022, with Shahbal, who is currently a member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) playing a huge role.

Shahbal revealed in a statement that he was set to hand out certificates to the 24 players who successfully made it to the team after a rigorous selection process.

“Today at 4 pm, I will be at Serani grounds to award certificates to players of the newly formed Mombasa United FC.

“I’m delighted to fulfil the promise I made to the Mombasa youth early last year when we launched the Shahbal Super Cup. Let’s revive our soccer!” part of his statement read.

Shabhal, who stepped down for Abdulswamad Nassir during the 2022 Mombasa gubernatorial race, added that Mombasa United will lock horns with the Wananyuki FC later in the day.

Mombasa United FC will comprise talented players selected from Mvita, Kisauni, Nyali, Changamwe, Jomvu and Likoni constituencies.

The stars who have been selected are aged between 18 and 25 years old.

The club would receive funding from a section of the political class and business community in the vast county.

Shahbal also added that a women’s club is set to be formed in the near future to provide a platform for talented girls from the county to showcase their talents.
