AFC Leopards went joint top of the FKF Premier League table after a hard earned 1-0 win over 10-man Mathare United in a rescheduled match played at the Ruaraka Grounds.

A blistering start by Ingwe pinned Frank Ouna’s Mathare on the ropes and they almost got the breakthrough when Austin Otieno tasted Job Ochieng’s palms with a fierce shot in the third minute of the game.

The day’s captain Elvis Rupia finally got his 12th goal of the season when he found the bottom right corner with a fierce shot that beat Ochieng’.

The long dry spell on Ingwe’s marksman was broken after a good exchange between him and Hansel Ochieng’ who was earning a rare start in Patrick Aussem’s team.

Ingwe almost ran riot in the first 20 minutes of the game with Clyde Senaji rasping the crossbar and Hansel Ochieng also getting close.

Mathare barely threatened in the first half save for Klinsman Omulanga’s chance in the 33rd minute that was ruled for offside.

A quick shift in formation in the second half brought some life in the Mathare tem and soon they started looking like a team that has been training together. No real chance came their way and it was Leopards who wasted numerous chances to extend the scoreline.

The 2008 Kenya champions were reduced to ten men in the 76th minute of the game when captain David Ochieng’ Cheche got his matching orders for an alleged foul on Rupia.

Ingwe also finished the match with ten men when Shichenje who had otherwise been outstanding got his marching orders in the dying seconds of the game.
