As Harambee Stars host the Pharaohs at Kasarani Stadium at 7pm, they look forward to leaving a mark through striking a better performance.
In their previous 20 meetings since October 1972 ,the Egyptians appear to be the stronger side with a record of 14 wins 5 draws Harambee stars have only won once in their last 20 matches against the Pharaohs.
A 1-1 draw in the first leg was a rare positive result for Kenya and tonight begs a chance for them to better that record.
Head coach Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee admits that this is a tough match but the team is up to task.
“We know it is going to be a very tough match because Egypt is one of the best teams in the continent with good and talented individual players. We know that in history we have never beaten Egypt, but this is football. Who says there can never be a first time for something?” coach Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee said looking ahead to the match.
Kenya last faced the Pharaohs in November 2019 back in Egypt at the Africa Cup Of Nations qualifiers group stage `Group G' which saw the match end in a 1-1 draw with Al Ahly midfielder Mahmoud Kharaba breaking the deadlock a slightly before the half time break. Harambee Stars later equalized through top striker Michael Olunga in the 67th minute seeing the match end in a draw.
Ghost Mulee's side hopes for qualifying for the AFCON are very high and this will see Egypt facing a tough battle at Kasarani.
Harambee Stars sits third in Group G with three points and their only hope of qualification is twin victories against Egypt and Togo. Victory over the Mo Salah-led Egypt on Thursday will put Harambee Stars’ campaign and hopes back on track.
