Drama and action continues to pan out as we head to the knockout stages of the EURO 2020. Today being the last match day for the group stages, more certainly awaits as France better known as les bleus will face off against Portugal at the Pusaks Arena in Hungary whereas Spain who are still yet to mark their first win, match up against Slovakia. What a match day indeed and so far what a tournament it has been as we look at some of the outstanding and incredible feets players and teams have made in terms of breaking records.
1.Luka Modric : Luka! Luka! Luka!
More to being Croatia's most-capped player (134 caps) as his team defeated Cyprus in their World Cup Qualifier, Modric yet again set a record of being the youngest and at the same time the oldest player to score for Croatia at the Euros. As a promising 23 year old back in 2008, Modric scored what is still recorded as the fastest penalty at a European Championship game. On 22nd June, the 35 year old skipper scored a breathtaking goal against Scotland that saw his team advancing into the knockout stages. Viva Luka!!!
2.Giorgio Chiellini: The Veteran
The 36 year old Juventus legend also quickly made his mark by recording the most appearances for Italy. His appearance against Switzerland was his 14th, the most for any Italian outfield player.
3.Spain : TikiTaka
The true definition of TikiTaka was seen by fans across the globe when Spain, also dubbed La Roja, set a passing record playing against Sweden in Seville. A spectacle that saw Luis Enrique's side completely dominating the first half with a stunning 84% in possession. The Spaniards managed to complete 419 passes in the opener but on the flip side, the game ended as a goalless draw. Nonetheless, Spaniards were happy!
4.Patrick Schick : A Schick Goal!
Regarded as undoubtedly one of the best if not the best goal in the European Championships, Schick's goal was truly a masterpiece defying all logic. The goal, pinned against Scotland in the group stages, was scored from a record distance of 49.7 metres breaking a previous record of 38.6 metres set by German midfielder Torsten Frings back in 2004. The wicked shot came from the 25 year old's left foot leaving the spectators in awe.
5. Cristiano Ronaldo : G.O.A.T
Last but not least is Ronaldo. Once again the living legend never ceases to amaze the Sporting world with mind blowing performances that are truly incomprehensible. The 36 year old Portuguese skipper is Euros all time Scorer with 11 goals, Portugal's all time Scorer with 106 goals, the first player to appear in 5 European Championships and the first player to score at 5 consecutive Euro final tournaments… all achieved in the group stages, What more can I say? Simply the Greatest Of All Time!
