National Rugby Sevens teams, Shujaa and Lionesses won't be taking part at the Los Angeles Sevens slated for this weekend in the United States. The Kenyan teams were to play hosts, USA, Britain and South Korea in the two day event slated for June 25-26.
With regards to the Ministry of Sports, the government is currently focusing and giving full support to teams seeking Olympic qualifications rather than build up matches.
The Kenyan teams on the other hand had an aim to use the tournament as a final build up to the forthcoming Olympic games. The Previous Build up tournament was held in Madrid where Shujaa lost to Argentina in the finals (21-14) and the Lionesses lost to Spain in the Fifth-place playoffs (12-10).
Moving on, the two teams will continue training in the bubble set ups at Moi Stadium, Kasarani whereas full preparations are on course for the Olympics.
Shujaa's Jacob Ojee is currently the sole player with injury woes, however head coach Innocent Simiyu gave an update on his progress saying the player has been attending physiotherapy sessions that will surely lead him to full recovery.
Apparently, the Shujaa are placed 12th in the World sevens series with 35 points whereas New Zealand are currently topping the series with 115 points.
