The governing body of UEFA has announced that the away goal rule will be no more for European clubs come next season.

The Rule which has existed for 56 years will be scrapped and therefore, it will be impossible for a two-legged tie to get decided by tallying the number of goals each side/team has scored in both tours (home & away).

UEFA described that the rule Favored the team that scored the most 'away' goals. UEFA president, Aleksander Ceferin said that there is truly no importance for an away goal to carry more weight.

The governing body also said that statistics show a steady decline in home advantage since the 70s, with the ratio of goals scored at home and away switching from 2.02/0.95 to 1.58/1.15

UEFA also stated that some of the factors that influenced their decision included clubs which felt that the away goals rule had put home sides at a competitive disadvantage.

All ties that will be level at the end of the second leg will instead go to extra time and possible penalties if they are still held at a stalemate. The change wi apply across all male & female football clubs, primarily the Champions League, the Europa League and the Europa Conference League
