The much awaited FKF Betway Cup pitting AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia will for the first time be played at the Ruaraka grounds in Nairobi after the government declined to grant the newly refurbished Nyayo stadium and Moi International Sports Center Kasarani for the July 4 game.

It has been confirmed that both club’s CEO’s and the FKF Head of Competitions Frank Ogolla have been informed about the latest development that has caused irk among football stakeholders in the country.

“We’re in receipt of communication from Sports Kenya informing us of the unavailability of both Kasarani Stadium and Nyayo Stadium on the aforesaid date,” read the letter.

The two teams made it to the finals after seeing off Equity Bank FC and Bidco United in the semis respectively.

The last time the two met in a major Cup final, Peter Opiyo scored the lone goal as AFC Leopards then coached by James Nandwa beat Gor Mahia to lift the trophy then called the GoTV Shield.
