Eight clubs from the Western Counties participating in the National Super League (NSL) have formally issued a petition to the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) requesting for the halt of the league that is currently ongoing.

This comes after the government of Kenya on Friday 18th June suspended sports in 13 counties Western, Nyanza and Rift Valley counties after a surge in Covid-19 cases in the region.

The teams include Kisumu All Stars, Migori Youth, Gusii FC, Silibwet Leons, Vihiga Bullets, APS Bomet, Kisumu Hotstars and Soy United.

The eight teams say that they can’t access training fields and host matches which is proving to be a disadvantage to them because it is business as usual in other regions.

“The Federation should stop the league for a level playing field. Talk to the government be it National or Counties to allow us finish out matches at home at this crucial time of the league without fans,”

“To look at the fixtures well because allowing other teams to play and others not will bring in congestion and fatigue thus disadvantages these teams who are also capable by the look of the table also top the said league,” read part of the statement.

The teams have also requested all players and members of the technical bench for teams in the National Super League to undergo Covid-19 testing. Rising cases of the number of those infected have prompted this, especially the asymptomatic cases.
