Ferdinand Omanyala stormed into the men's 100m semi final on Saturday afternoon when he finished third in his heat behind winner Canadian Andre de Grasse and American Fred Kerley.

After two false starts that claimed Nigerian Divine Oduduru, the race finally got underway with De Grasse winning in a time of 9:91 seconds.

It was a good ending for Kenyan sprinters who had the day start off badly after news came out that Mark Otieno had been suspended from the games after failing a doping test.

Omanyala’s time of 10:01 equalled the national record he set on March 30, 2021 in Lagos at the 3rd MoC Grand Prix.
