Reigning Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon will be aiming for yet another gold after comfortably winning the first semi-final heat of the 1500m to qualify for the finals.
Kipyegon who became a mother in 2018, wants to be the first Kenyan woman to successfully defend gold in the distance.
During the semi-finals, she crossed the line in a time of 3:56:80 seconds to finish ahead of Ethiopia's Freweyni Gebreezibeher (3:57:54) and Gabriela Debues-Stafford of Canada who clocked 3:58:81 to finish third.
The real threat for Kenya's Kipyegon will definitely come from the immaculate Dutchwoman Sifan Hassan who is chasing a treble after successfully winning the 5000m on Monday. Hassan sailed to the finals after winning heat two of the semi-final in a time of 4:00:23.
The final will take place on Friday August 6 at 15:50hrs EAT.
