
Kenya Lionesses rugby player Janet Okello is set to join the Japanese side MIE Pearls Women’s Rugby Football Club.
The 29-year-old is set to join the Japan-based side on a year-long coming from Mwamba RFC the 2022 inaugural women’s Kenya Cup champions.
“I am excited for this opportunity that lies ahead. I had many offers before on my plate but I kept turning them down. Right now, I feel this is the right time to go and test myself in a league outside the country for the first time in my career,” Janet noted.

The signing was also confirmed by the club’s Irish-Fijian manager Linda Shannon.
"Janet Okello has signed a professional full-time deal with MIE Pearls Womens Rugby Club in Japan for a year.
“An exciting start for her and, hopefully, an inspiration to many younger Kenyan females to take up the sport of rugby,” the coach pointed out.
In her World Rugby Sevens series stats having played 10 matches gathering 35 points with seven tries scored.
Janet in a past interview noted that for her, rugby is more of a lifestyle than just a sport which she treasures a lot.
The rugby player began her career in 2010 when her games teacher asked her to play the sport in high school.
Okello joined the rugby national team as soon as she finished school, making her senior debut with the Kenya Lioness at the Dubai Sevens in December 2013.
The Kenya Lioness star player has also played for local sides like KCB and Mwamba RFC.
