
Kenya Rugby Union has banned three Shamas Foundation rugby players for periods ranging between three to six years.
The three players who reportedly assaulted a referee also saw their contracts terminated by Shamas Foundation for their gross misconduct.
Julian Owino, James Kang'ethe and Joseph Kang'ethe will not play the sport for three, five and half years and six years respectively.

The referee who was assaulted was centre referee Saidi Kenya after allegations of poor officiating.
“Kenya Rugby Union remains committed to the rugby values of integrity, passion, solidarity, discipline and respect, and wishes to reiterate that it does not condone the intimidation or abuse of officials, players, fans or any members of the wider rugby fraternity,” the statement read.
The incident occurred on Sunday, March 20 in a KRU championship semifinal match between Shamas and Catholic Monks.
Shamas were defeated 5-9, denying them the opportunity to be promoted to top flight Kenya Cup.
A video of the three players shared online showed them reportedly confronting the official who was rescued by his fellow colleagues.
The video sparked uproar from various stakeholders in the game, forcing KRU to take drastic measures on the players.
According to rugby laws in the country, a player is prohibited from abusing and threatening a match official.
