Ex-Malkia Star Jane Wacu Gets Promotion in Govt Job

Former Malkia Strikers setter Jane Wacu is among a number of volleyball players and coaches who were promoted by the Kenya Prisons Service on Thursday, July 14, in a colourful ceremony held in Ruiru, Kiambu County.

Wacu who recently retired from international duties was elevated from the position of a sergeant to a senior sergeant in the event that was presided over by Kimega Angus Masoro, Kenya Prisons Staff Training College Commandant.

Kenya Prisons blocker Diana Khisa and Brackcides Khadambi Agala were also promoted.

Agala is part of Kenya's beach volleyball team that is set to represent the nation at the 2022 Commonwealth Games slated for Thursday, July 28 to Monday, August 8, in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Kenya Prisons men’s team assistant tactician Dennis Mokua’s hard work also paid off as the former international was elevated to a senior sergeant’s role.

Speaking after the ceremony, Mokua stated that he was looking forward to serving the wardens.

“This was a surprise. I had done the interview in April and had forgotten about it. I'm humbled by the gesture and I look forward to serving in that position,” Mokua told Nation Sports.

Earlier this year, Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) technical director David Lung’aho who has previously coached the national women’s team was promoted to a chief inspector’s role.

Gideon Chenje, physiotherapists Bernadette Yotongole and Alex Mwendia as well as Kenya Prison’s coach Joseph Barasa were among the six officials who were promoted.
