The international club-friendly match between Kenya Police FC and Rwanda's Rayon Sports has been called off.

The match - which was set to be played in Kigali on Saturday, August 27 - was called off after confirmation by the host side Rayon Sports.

In a statement, Rayon Sports noted that they had been advised by the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) that the match would not take place.

"The friendly match between us and Kenya Police FC did not happen after discussions between the two teams based on the advice we received from FERWAFA.

“Fans who bought tickets will be allowed to use them in the international match scheduled next week on Friday," the statement by Rayon Sports read.

Kenya Police FC arrived in Rwanda on Thursday, August 24, for a 10-day pre-season training camp in preparation for the 2022/2023 Football Kenya Federation Premier League season.

The cancellation of the match is believed to have been caused by the current suspension of football activities by FIFA in Kenya.

FIFA had suspended Kenya from any football activities as a result of government interference with the FKF.

"Consequently, as of  February 24, 2022, the FKF loses all its membership rights, as defined in article 13 of the FIFA Statutes with immediate effect and until further notice FKF representatives and club teams are therefore no longer entitled to take part in international competitions until the suspension is lifted This also means that neither the FKF nor any of its members or officials may benefit from any development programs, courses or training from FIFA and/or CAF Moreover, we remind you and your affiliates not to enter in any sporting contact with the FKF and/or its teams while the FKF is Suspended," the letter by FIFA read.
