The Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) leagues won’t kick off this weekend as earlier planned by the federation as they are yet to get the green light from the Ministries of Health and Sports to carry on with the league games.

KBF fixtures unit secretary Joseph Amoko has said that they are currently working on the league fixtures as they await further instructions from the government on the go ahead of the league matches.

The KBF league was halted in March together with other sporting events in the country after the government suspended all sporting activities in the country due to the  high rise of Covid-19 cases.

The Kenya Basketball league fixtures are set to be announced by the end of the week and games played in a later date as they were earlier expected to resume by May 15.

After the suspension of sporting activities the KBF league was already in action week five with some teams having played four to five games out of the 22 league matches in the entire season.

The national women’s team Lionesses who are preparing for 2021 FIBA Afrobasket Zone Five Qualifiers are also expected to converge for a training camp at Nyayo Stadium anytime soon with players within Nairobi region expected to be the first to form the trainimg camp.

The team was expected to Converge for their first training session on May 1, but the suspension of sporting activities  and cessation of movement in the country inconvinienced the programme.

The Lionesses will however be expected to come in for the training camp now that the government has given green light on sports to resume.

The Zone Five AfroBasket qualifiers matches are scheduled to take place in Egypt from the July 5-10.

The last time Lionesses featured in the prestigious continental showpiece was in the 2019 edition which was hosted  in Dakar Senegal where they finished at a dismal position 11 out of the 12 teams that took part in the tournament.
