Ex-Gor Mahia Star Godfrey Walusimbi Retires

Former Gor Mahia defender Godfrey Walusimbi has announced his retirement from professional football after 15 years. 

In a letter dated October 5, the 33-year-old announced his retirement noting that it was through football that he gained exposure to the outside world. 

Walusimbi who also played for the Uganda Cranes started his football career in 2000 when he joined Sports Club Villa as a youth player for Mpigi United in Uganda.

“I've resolved to officially retire from professional football as a player I am extremely grateful for the experience, relationship and exposure the game brought to me, my walk of life has been made possible by many other factors and people behind the scene so to reaching my self-actualization as a pro player,” part of the statement read. 

Walusimbi signed his first professional contract as a senior team player in 2007 for Ugandan club SC Villa. 

Apart from playing for his mother club, the Ugandan has featured for other clubs like Bunnamwaya SC (Uganda) Don Bosco (Congo) Gor Mahia (Kenya), Kaizer Chiefs (South Africa) and KF Vllaznia (Albania). 

He also thanked his friends and family for the countless sacrifices they made that allowed him to live his dream for 15 years. 

The former K’Ogalo defender noted that with the retirement comes a new journey announcing that he would delve into coaching. 

“Realizing that am at self-actualization I confidently confirm that I cannot miss playing football at all and straight away transition go be into football management/coaching,” Walusimbi added. 

Walusimbi noted that football has always and will always be part of him and hopes that his new chapter  will be similar or better than when he was playing.
