
Athletics Kenya (AK) released the 2022/2023 Cross Country series calendar on Thursday ahead of the 2023 World Cross Country Championships slated for February 18 in Bathurst, Australia.
In a press release, AK stated that the first cross country of the season is scheduled to be held on October 15.
The eagerly awaited event will be staged at the Machakos People’s Park.

The Machakos event alongside four others that will be held in Kapsokwony, Sotik, Iten and Olkalou between October 29 and December 10 will be used as build ups for the county and regional championships.
The county cross country championship will be staged on December 17 across all the forty seven counties in the republic.
After the county events, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), National Police Service (NPS), Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), and Kenya Prisons Service will stage their respective championships between December 17 and January 7.
The National Youth Service (NYS) and the Kenyan Universities will also hold their championships between the above dates.
The Cross Country series reached its climax on January 23, 2023 at the national championships scheduled to take place at the Kenya Prisons Training College in Ruiru.
Besides the national cross country championships, Kenya is also set to organize the Sirikwa Classic Cross Country Tour, a World Athletics Gold label event on February 4 at Eldoret’s Lobo Village.
Kenya’s Hellen Obiri and Uganda’s Joshua Jeptegei are the reigning World Cross Country Champions in the senior category.
Cheptegei clocked 31.40 to win the 2019 edition held in Aarhus, Denmark ahead of compatriot Jacob Kiplimo and Eliud Kipchoge’s training mate Geoffrey Kamworor.
In the female category, Obiri reached the tape in 31.64 ahead of the Ethiopian duo of Dera Dida and Letesenbet Gidey.
