Felix Kandie will return to Canada for the Toronto Waterfront Marathon four years after his last visit upon request by the race organisers.

According to Toronto Tourism, Kandie's star power and reviews will bring the much-needed edge and excitement for the race slated to take place on Sunday, October 16.

The athlete, who finished in a podium position, accepted the invitation and heaped praise on the country's atmosphere.

During the 2018 edition, the 35-year-old finished third in a time of 2:08:30.

During his video call with the race organisers, Kandie noted that his last time in Toronto was memorable.

“Back then when I was in Toronto I felt like I was at home. It was nice for me. The city is so beautiful; the people are very friendly and the organization of the Toronto Marathon is awesome. The town is indeed very good for competition,” Kandie stated.

He noted that during the 2018 marathon during his morning runs and evening runs he used the opportunities to tour the Canadian town.

His latest race was at the Seoul Marathon in April where he finished seventh with a time of 2:07:18.

The Toronto Waterfront Marathon all-comers record is currently being held by fellow Kenyan Philemon Rono, with a time of 2:05:00.

The field will also see Philmen Rono, Barselius Kipyego and Ethiopia’s Yihunilign Adane grace the race in Canada.

The Toronto Marathon is also significant to Kandie as it was after the 2018 event when he got married.

Currently, Kandie is training with Gilbert Kirwa, a 2015 Toronto silver medalist and Albert Kangogo.

“I have completed about 95 percent of my training and now am finalizing the last part. I am looking for a fantastic result in Toronto,” Kandie added.

The winner of the Toronto Marathon will walk away with Ksh2,231,284 (CAD $25,000) with a new course record worth a bonus of Ksh1,309,967 (CAD $15,000).
