Kenya’s Robert Kipkemboi Wins Ksh 2.4M in Istanbul

Robert Kipkemboi ran a tactical race on Sunday, November 6, 2022 to clinch the N Kolay Istanbul Marathon title.

The 2016 Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon winner reached the tape in a time of 2:10.18 to win the World Athletics Elite label road race.  

Bahraini international Marius Kimutai settled for a second-place position ahead of Kenya’s Sila Kiptoo.

Kimutai and Kiptoo crossed the finishing line in 2:10.27 and 2:11.42 respectively.

The Istanbul Marathon course record is being held by Kenya’s Daniel Kibet who set the record at the 2019 edition when he won the race in 2:09.44.

In the women’s category, Ethiopians showed the other competitors dust to register a clean podium sweep.

Sechale Dalasa led her compatriots Meselech Tsegaye and Ethlemahu Sintayehu to the top three finish. The latter was making her debut.

Dalasa clocked a personal best time of 2:25.54 while Tsegaye and Sintayehu finished the race in 2:29.01 and 2:31.38 respectively.

The Kenyan duo of Stacy Ndiwa and Judith Jerubet registered fourth and fifth place finishes ahead of Uzbekistan’s Marina Hmelevskaya.

Each of the winners in the men’s and women’s category received $20,000 (approximately Ksh 2.4M) in prize money.
