Kenya International Ochieng Released by Watford

Watford have announced that 13 players will leave the club this summer. The 13 largely consists of younger players and Kenya U23 international Henry Ochieng is among those who have been shown the door.

Dennis Bergkamp’s son, Mitchel Baergkamp has also been released. 

Ochieng joined the club in January from Irish club Cork City and has been featuring for the U23 side for most parts of the season.

A statement from the club read “The following 13 players will leave the club: Mac Chisholm, Thomas Horsewood, Max Thompson, Phoenix Patterson, Bayli Spencer-Adams, Maxwell Statham, Mason Barrett, Sam Dalby, Harry Forster, Teddy Perkins, Toby Stevenson, Mitchel Bergkamp and Henry Ochieng.

All at Watford FC wish the best of luck to these departing youth players in their future careers.”

Ochieng started his career at West Ham academy before moving to Leyton Orient academy. He turned out for Leyton senior team between 2016 and 2018 seasons  before moving to Braintree Town. He would later turn out for Welwyn Garden City and Wingate & Finchley before moving to Cork City in 2020.

Born in London to Kenyan parents, Ochieng made his debut for Kenya U23 against Mauritius on 14 November 2018 in the 2019 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations qualification after coming on as a sub.
