Tusker FC faltered yet again in their quest of wrestling the FKF Premier League title from Gor Mahia when they drew 1-1 with Wazito FC at the Utalii Grounds.
In what was an explosive first half, the league leaders took an early lead when Sammy saw his freekick deflected into the net to grant the visitors the lead. However a mistake by Tusker keeper Emery Mvuyekure granted Wazito the equalizer midway through the first half.
It has not been a good resumption for the 11-time Kenyan champions for they have dropped six massive points in their last three matches. The drop started on matchday 15 when they had to come from behind to hold Nairobi City Stars 2-2 at the Kasarani Annex. They would then draw with their closest challengers KCB on Saturday and today against Wazito.
The results have definitely dented Tusker’s hopes of stretching their lead at the top. A win for KCB on Sunday against Bandari could see them go top of the log but this depends on the result between AFC Leopards and Posta Rangers on Saturday. Ingwe who are a point behind KCB and two behind Tusker could also go top of the charts if they get the three points against Stanley Okumbi’s Mailmen.
The draw means Tusker are now on 34 points with Wazito still 7th on the log with 23 points.
