Mwamba Rugby Football Club announced Fahad Adil Mohamed as its new Director of Rugby on Wednesday, February 1.

Fahad takes up the new role, having spent six years at the club as a team manager where he oversaw logistics and led assistant team managers for both men’s and women’s teams.

The club credits him for helping the team navigate challenging times and the relocation from the historical home ground, the Nairobi Railway Club.

Before joining Mwamba, Fahad worked at University’s Leos rugby club for five years as the team manager.

In his role as a team manager, Fahad worked under Kenya Simbas head coach Paul Odera where he was in charge of the national 15’s team’s logistics during their unsuccessful bid to qualify for the Rugby World Cup.

He has also served as Team Manager and Liaison for Samurai Rugby.

Fahad however did not begin his sports journey in rugby, as at age six he started pursuing swimming as a sporting activity before he took up football, and later on rugby.

However, his rugby career came to an end following a terrible knee injury where he hurt his knee cap.

On his new appointment at Mwamab Fahad highlighted that he was aware of the fact that the team was rebuilding.

“I think every club should have ambition. It’s the club’s ambition that has made me take this new role. We want to win. We want to do things and achieve, but there is a process to that.”

“Long-term, if we think about winning Kenya Cup, that could be a realistic long-term goal for us. In terms of the short-term and where we focus now, it is on our rebuild. We have a great team of youngsters that we are working with,” Fahad explained.

According to Mwamba, Fahad’s new role will be a hybrid of both technical and executive responsibilities.

He will also take charge of the process of rebuilding and reorganisation of the club’s on and off-the-pitch programmes and activities.

“Off the pitch, he will work closely with the club’s Executive Committee to ensure the financial stability of the club and work on new corporate and non-corporate partnerships. He will spearhead an innovative programme that will see the club develop new opportunities for both current and prospective partners,” Mwambu Rugby Clun highlighted.
