In Kenya, the South African sports broadcaster stopped the coverage of football back in 2017 after a disagreement following the Kenyan Premier League expansion from 16 to 18 teams.
Speaking after a friendly match between Gor Mahia and Rarienda Combinedon December 25, 2022, Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba confirmed that SuperSport will return to cover Kenyan football.
Namwamba disclosed that preparations were underway and expected everything to be ready by the end of the 2022/2023 FKF Premier League season.
“I have struck a deal with Multichoice that will see SuperSport coming back to start televising football because that is one way of marketing our talents.
“I expect at the conclusion of this season we should be ready to roll the live broadcast,” Namwamba noted.
The agreement will see SuperSport making a return to broadcasting Kenyan football after a five-year hiatus.
