Kenyas Javelin thrower Julius Yego was, appointed as a member of the technical committee on sports of the new Talanta Hela Council.

According to the Gazette Notice dated Friday, February 10, the council was created in line with President William Ruto’s directive to nurture sporting talents. 

Renowned sports journalist Carol Radull will head the council in a raft of appointments made by Sports Cabinet Secretary, Ababu Namwamba.

Before her appointment Radul was a host in her weekly online sports show Radull Live, which focused on Kenyan Sports People or issues affecting the Kenyan sports industry.

Radull and other council members have the task of developing a framework for monetizing sports and expanding employment opportunities in the sector. 

"Following the Presidential pronouncement on December 12 2022, of Government plans to revitalise Sports and the Creative Economy through the revolutionary Talanta Hela initiative, the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Youth Affairs, the Arts and Sports has established Talanta Hela Council and its Technical Committees for Sports and the Creatives,” part of teh notice read.

Also, part of the committee is retired footballer Boniface Ambani alongside former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) vice-president Sammy Tiyoi Shollei.

Other members include Neddy Kutsuru, Alfred Makotsi, Collins Kale, Kevin Mutai, Shilovelo Winna Shilavula, Daniel Nakeor Losiru, and Staicy Shariffa Ochieng.

According to the notice, the Principal Secretary in the Department of Sports, Jonathan Mueke, will also be a council member.

In a past statement, Sports CS Ababu Namwamba hinted that the government's inaugural TalantaHela may become an African project.
