5000M Olympics Silver Medalist Hellen Obiri Gets KDF Promotion

After an outstanding performance at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics that saw her bagging a silver medal in the 5000M finals, Hellen Obiri who serves under the Kenya Defense Forces primarily the Kenya Airforce was awarded a promotion. Obiri got promoted to the rank of Senior Sergeant by the Chief Of Defense Forces, Robert Kibochi. The amazing promotion also comes after 1500M silver medalist Timothy bagged himself a promotion through the president's directive. 

At the Summer games, Obiri qualified and competed in the 10000m and 5000m finals managing to clinch a silver in the latter however coming short of Dutch Sifa Hassan who took home the gold medal. Obiri clocked 14.38.36 to finish behind Netherland's Hassan who won gold, with Ethiopia's Gudaf Tsegay settling for bronze to complete the top three podium. 

Obiri tried her best in the 10000M finals but managed to finish right behind the podium places at position 4. On the flip side, Obiri's impressive efforts and ultimate medal helped the nation to a 19th place finish in the worldwide rankings. The double world 5,000 metres champion also announced that she is signing off from the track to launch a career in road running. “I think it is now time to think about the road races. I have given all my effort on the track. I think I will run one 10000M maybe next year and then I will end my career on the track,” the world cross country champion said.
