The Morning session of the 2nd Day in the Under 20 Championships is done and dusted. The men's event fared well for the Kenyans as Alocias Kipng'etich and Peter Kithome both qualified to the next round in the 400M hurdles.
Kipng'etich managed a time of 51:41 seconds and Peter clocking 51:31 as both athletes achieved a 'personal best' in their respective races.
In the men's 800M, Noah Kibet and Emmanuel Wanyonyi both qualified for the final setting times of 1:46.70 and 1:46.51 respectively. With the men's impressive performance, the women's side wasn't too glamorous as Agnes Mutindi failed to qualify in the 400M hurdles. Mutindi, even though setting her personal best, finished the race in the 5th position (Heat 1) clocking a time of 1:02.65, roughly 2 seconds shy of the qualification mark.
Disaster yet again struck in the women's 800M when Sheila Chepkosgei got disqualified due to a line infringement incident. Chepkogesgei had topped her heat when thorough reviews deemed her to have stepped the white line. Heartbreak followed next when Brenda Chebet finished last in the 3rd Heat of the same race. Chebet finished with a time of 2:12.16. Later on the day, Team Kenya will be looking to bag their first medals as they compete in the finals of the 1500M, 5000M and 3000M races.
