Vihiga Queens To Appoint New Head Coach In 2 Weeks

Queens are set to finally unveil a new head coach after the departure of long serving young tactician, Alex Alumira. Alumira parted ways with the club under mutual consent on 23rd August after an 8 year stint that saw him winning the Kenya Women's Premier League title 3 times. An achievement that still remains to be the highlight of his career. Now with the departure, follows arrangements on having a new gaffer for the former champions. The move was revealed by the club's executive officer Mike Senelwa as the team arrived at the CECAFA residential camp ahead of the CAF Women's Clubs Champions League 2021 Qualifiers. 

"The club will release a statement immediately after Cecafa on the decision about who becomes the next head coach," Senelwa said. Assistant coach, Boniface Nyamu took over coaching responsibilities and emphasized on how well prepared the ladies are as they aim to win the tournament. "You know I am here on a temporary basis but that does not mean I cannot cement my position in the team as the head coach. My future will be judged based on results and this is the perfect opportunity to show the management what I am capable of." He said. 

"With regards to the team, the players are psyched up and match ready. We have been training at Kenya Institute of Special Education on a team program," added Nyamu. Vihiga open their Pool 'B' matches on Sunday with a game against Commercial Bank of Ethiopia at Nyayo Stadium. Their second game will be against Sudanese club Yei Joint Stars on 1st September at the Kasarani Stadium then close off the pool games with New Generation on 3rd September back at Nyayo Stadium.
