The Semi Finals are now set to kick off on Saturday 28th August, 2021 the first game being Kabras Sugar up against fourth placed Strathmore Leos at the Nandi Bears Club in Nandi County. Defending champions KCB will feature in the second semi final as they take on third placed Menengai Oilers at the KCB Sports Club in Ruaraka. Both matches will kick off at 2.00pm with the winners of the fixtures clashing in the final on Saturday 4 September 2021.
Kenya Harlequins however vowed to launch an appeal for being excluded in the set playoffs. The eight-time champions believe they finished fourth on the log and were due to play league leaders Kabras with the other semi pitting KCB against Menengai Oilers. According to the final standings released by the Kenya Rugby Union last weekend, Menengai Oilers placed third with 30 points, Strathmore Leos were fourth (27 points) while Quins finished fifth on 25.
Quins Chairman, Michael Wanjala lamented on how Strathmore should be stripped of the five points against Masinde Muliro University last weekend as the match was supposed to have been played in July. Strathmore on the other hand blamed the union for causing confusion in the final fixtures. “We were already on the road travelling to play MMUST in Nandi only for the union to tell us to abandon the match when all the logistical preparations were in place. However, we decided to play the match," said Leos head coach Louis Kisia.
Quins coach Wanjala stated that they have submitted appeal documents to the Appeals Committee headed by former international Edward Rombo and believe they have a strong case. A decision by the Appeals Committee is expected at the end of the week. Leos finished fourth in the regular season and will be featuring in the semis for the first time since 2013.
