
Chelsea’s star Jorginho won the UEFA’s Men’s player of the year while their coach Thomas Tuchel was voted men's coach of the year. The awards were announced at the Champions League draw in Istanbul on Thursday, August 26.
Jorgino managed to beat off teammate N’Golo Kante and City’s Kevin De Bruyne in the category.
UEFA said Jorginho had won 175 points in the voting by coaches and journalists, to De Bruyne’s 167 and Kante’s 160. Argentine Lionel Messi, six times Ballon d’Or winner, was fourth with 148.
In the women's side, Barcelona’s Alexia Pulletas took home the Women’s player of the year.
Other winners of the awards include the Men’s goalkeeper of the year which went to the Blue’s Edouard Mendy, Women’s goalkeeper of the year – Sandra Panos (Barcelona).
Manchester City won the Men’s defender of the year Reuben Dias.
Women’s defender of the year- Irene Paredes (Barcelona), Men’s midfielder of the year- N’Golo Kante (Chelsea), Men’s striker of the year- Erling Haaland (Borussia Dortmund) and Women’s striker of the year- Jennifer Hermoso (Barcelona).
The Champions league draw was conducted on Thursday evening with Manchester City drawn to face Paris St-Germain, RB Leipzig and Club Bruges in the Champions League group stage.
Holders Chelsea come up against Juventus, Russian club Zenit St Petersburg and Swedish side Malmo.
Manchester United face Villarreal, who beat them in last season's Europa League final, as well as Italian club Atalanta and Swiss side Young Boys.
Liverpool are also in a tough group with Atletico Madrid, Porto and AC Milan.
