
The Football Kenya Federation has released a list of the names of six players shortlisted for the Midfielder of the Year award.
The nominees include Tusker’s Jackson Macharia who is currently with the national team Harambee Stars for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
Despite being used as an impact player for the Brewers, he has bagged a couple of assists in a season where Tusker were the highest scoring team.
He will face off Sofapaka’s Lawrence Juma who was the best scorer for the club courtesy of the change of the area of operation as the bench deployed him in the offensive area.
Kevin Kimani of Wazito also made it to the list thanks to his nine goals and five assists recorded in his maiden season with the club.
The Kenyan international was reliable when his side needed him the most with his sublime free kicks and goals from open play. His leadership skills also came in handy to the club which managed to finish ninth.
Shami Kibwana who is Kakamega Homeboyz attacking midfielder also made it to the list. He had two assists and was the best scoring player for Homeboyz in the recently concluded season.
Closing off the sheet is KCB’s midfielder Brian Ochieng who is the only defensive midfielder in the list and Kariobangi Sharks winger James Mazembe who had the highest number of assists in the season.
The awards gala whose purpose is to reward outstanding performers in the recently concluded season will be held on the 11th of September at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi.
