
Vihiga Queen, CBE, Lady Doves and Simba Queens have proceeded to the semifinals of the CAF Women Champions League CECAFA Qualifiers after the final round of group matches played on Friday, September 3, at the Kasarani and Nyayo stadium.
Kenya’s Vihiga queens thrashed Zanzibar’s New Generation 8-0 while Sudan’s Yei Stars were defeated 10-0 by Ethiopia's CBE FC.
Vihiga’s Harambee Starlets forward, Shikangwa, scored thrice for Kenya with Engesha scoring twice. At injury time, Maureen Achieng and Kebedi scored a goal for the Charles Okere side at the 93rd and 94th minute, taking Vihiga’s tally to eight goals.
The four sides will be in action on Monday, September 6 in the semifinals, set to be played at the Nyayo Stadium.
Vihiga Queens will go head to head with Tanzania’s Simba Queens in the first semi slated for 1:00 pm before making way for Ethiopia’s side CBE’s second semi against Uganda’s Lady Doves.
The overall winners from these qualifiers will get a slot to represent the CECAFA region in the inaugural CAF Women Champions League to be hosted in Egypt this year.
Meanwhile, Lady Doves of Uganda have received KSh11,000 for each member of the team from the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) because they qualified for the semifinals.
FUFA’s president, Moses Magogo, further promised the Lady Doves Ksh 33,000 each upon qualification to the final and Ksh55,000 if they win the Trophy.
