
The Final Day of the International Defensive Pistol Association(IDPA) Africa Championship kicked off to bang, literally as shooters both local and international battled it out for top points at the National Gun Owners Association (NGAO-Kenya) range in Kirigiti, Kiambu. The sport shooting event featured 150 participants who took part in the Tier 4 match that had 212 registered local and International shooters.
Master Ibrahim Ndung’u emerged as the winner in the Stock Service Pistol (SSP) category followed by a new Master Thomas Kiilu who came in second while seasoned Master Mohammed Omar (SSP) settled for the third position. In the Enhanced Service Pistol (ESP) category, Master Sammy Onyango was the winner followed by Master Eric Wachira and Master Samuel Chacha of the disciplined forces respectively.
Daniel Mutiso beat Wilson Kabugi and Memba Muriuki to win the SSP Expert category as Anthony Wahome was declared the winner in the ESP Expert category followed by Mike Kiptanui and Mohammed Aden who took 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. In the ESP Sharpshooter category, the trophy went to John Narumbe with international shooter Boris Zelinsy and Mohammed Noor Ahmed finishing second and third respectively.
Apparently the sporting event was the 15th edition of the International Defense Pistol Association and the first time the championships were being held outside South Africa. Due to this, notable international shooters like Boris Zelinsky from Ukraine marked his place by winning the Enhanced Service Pistol Division - Sharp shooter class. Pravir Vora won the Stock Service Pistol Division - Marksman class while Gerard Edo from Spain won the carry optics sharp shooter division.
A highlight of the event was the youngest shooter being 17 year old Jonathan Wahome being awarded the CCP Sharp Shooter 1st position token after a brief dedication from the master shooters.
