Egypt Coach Sacked Despite Decent Form

Egypt Coach

Head Coach of the Pharaohs of Egypt Hossam El Badry has been sacked by the Egyptian football Association. His last comments were, "A draw against Gabon is good." He was later dismissed less than 24 hours after Sunday’s World Cup qualifying draw in Gabon.

In a thrilling match, Egypt salvaged themselves in the dying minutes after scoring a late equalizer that sealed the game at 1-1. Drama also pulsated in the tense fixture after 29 year old defensive midfielder Omar Faber was red carded in the 71st minute. With the African World Cup Qualifiers going on, Egypt is top of Group F with four points but Libya can move two points above them if they beat Angola today. Badry, who had been in the job for two years, said he had refused to tender his resignation under pressure from the EFA, forcing them to sack him.

"The EFA would like to thank Hossam El-Badry and his technical staff for the work they have done for the national team. We wish them good luck and fortune in their future career. And the EFA will decide the new technical staff for the national team during the next 48 hours.” Said a statement from the EFA.

El Badry was named as Egypt’s head coach after his predecessor, Javier Aguirre, was sacked following the poor display on home soil when hosting the 2019 African Cup of Nations. He never lost a game during his two-year spell at the helm, winning five matches and drawing four.
