Head Coach Paul Bitok has named the squad set to kickstart the Africa Nation Cup campaign come 10th of September. The squad features 14 players, 3 of whom are debutants; Esther Mutinda, Veronica Adhiambo and Sinaida Yvonne. With the tournament taking center stage in Kigali, Rwanda, Malkia are relishing the chance to grab a title despite a barren run of six years without victory at the slated competition.
The Kenyan queens last won the continental trophy in 2015, when the 17th edition of the championship was held in Nairobi. Malkia Strikers finished second during the 2017 and 2019 versions with nemesis Cameroon reigning supreme on both occasions.
"After the Olympics competitions it's now time we start the journey of building a new generation of young players. I would like to congratulate the following new players for making it to the team as we start another journey together. These are; Esther Mutinda, Veronica Adhiambo and Sinaida Yvonne. It might be a tough transition for us but with consistent training and determination, Kenya will always remain to be a champion. For the experienced players it's also your duty to welcome your new sisters to the team and encourage them as they face upcoming challenges. I also take this opportunity to encourage each individual to give all their best so that you build your name and become a star by yourself. These can only be achieved by straight hard work and discipline. I wish the best to you all." Said Bitok.
A total of 15 teams in the women’s category will take part in the tournament. They include hosts Rwanda, Burundi, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gambia, Guinea, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Tanzania, Zambia and Tunisia.
