Wafalme’s Hopes Now Hang By a Thread As Morocco Defeat Them

Wafalme Strikers who beat Egypt 3-2

Kenya’s Wafalme Stars suffered their first loss after Morocco beat them 3-1 sets on Thursday, September 9 in Kigali, Rwanda during the African Nations Championship.

Kenya started the championship impressively on Wednesday when they defeated the Pharaohs in a rare 3-2 set.

In order for Kenya to proceed to the quarter-finals, Wafalme must beat neighbours Tanzania and hope Morocco will beat Egypt by any margin.

Wafalme’s assistant coach David Lungáho said they will be forced to put their best foot forward in their final group fixture today to see off Tanzania, so as to revive their chances of making it to the last eight.

“It’s a do or die fixture against Tanzania, but again, it will depend if Morocco beats Egypt because if the latter wins, we will be out regardless of our results against Tanzania. The boys really tried, but we felt their full force of scintillating form,” stated David.

On the other hand, in order for Egypt to proceed to the quarter-finals, they need a win of any kind against Morocco.

The Pharaohs currently have four points. Two above Kenya and two below leaders Morocco.
